Much has happened within a week.
Tuesday July 7th the Greenville team arrived around 10:30 am. We had some time of orientation, but mainly tried to keep them awake so they could sleep well through the night and get adjusted to the time change.
Wednesday, we went to downtown Athens, where everyone got to see the Parthenon up close, buy gifts to take home, and experience their first greek gyros. The whole day was spent in Athens.
Thursday, we all went to ancient Corinth and from there back to Athens on a train to Thessaloniki. We arrived at about 10pm.
Friday, we had an orientation of the city of Thessaloniki during the day, and then in the evening the first taste of street ministry. At two different places we had soccer games going in central squares and interaction with city kids. When it got dark everyone ended up by the waterfront where we gave out free frapes (greek coffee) for a chance to coverse and eventually talk about God.
On Saturday was the team’s first experience at the beach, the Aegean sea. We walked along the shore and gave out free cold water bottles.
On Sunday we got to have a beautiful church service full of praise and worship. Half of the team of 40 departed for Bulgaria, leaving 18 behind to continue the greek ministry.
On Monday we got to rest during the day and around 6pm start again at the central square park with face-painting, soccer, and games. Gathering together a large group of kids and happy parents. And then again by the water later to meet those walking by.
Here we are at Mars Hill in Athens:
In the mean time I have been able to meet up with high school friends and meet new Greeks. It’s great starting relationships…I just wish I could be here longer to build them. Please keep our time here in your prayers. It has definitely been a stretching experience for Greenville high schoolers.
More news, thoughts, experiences to come! Just wanted to give an overview of the week!
